Amazon Censors LGBT Titles

Funny how yesterday’s “policy on adult content” can suddenly turn into today’s “software glitch” when enough people notice.

Over the weekend several authors noticed that Amazon had begun stripping LGBT titles of their sales ranking. When they emailed to ask why, they received the following response:

“In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude “adult” material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.”

The excluded titles included not only LGBT erotica and erotic romance (including my own books), but titles of historical and academic nature.

This morning, Amazon says that there is no new “policy” in place and that it was only a “software glitch” that stripped the sales rankings from the LGBT books.

Hmmm.

Sounds like a wardrobe malfunction to me.
