My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things …

Besides reading and writing about hot guys falling in love, that is.

You may notice that my list of favorite films is shamefully dated, especially considering that I got my B.A. in screen writing. But, at least to me, these films are timeless classics.

Casablanca (1942)
Humphrey Bogart … Ingrid Bergman … As Time Goes By … What more is there to say? Except that this is my all time favorite film, even if Ilsa did get on that plane. Silly girl.

Chinatown (1974)
I love everything Jack Nicholson does, but this movie has been my absolute fave for years.

Rainman (1988)
If you’ve seen it, you know why it’s on my list. If you haven’t, you really, really should.

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
I’ve seen this movie probably hundreds of times and will doubtless see it hundreds more in my lifetime. And I still cry at all the same places!

Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
Not the remake! The original is the only way to go.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Hannibal Lecter is the best movie villain … Ever! And Ted Tally did a fantastic job adapting Thomas Harris’s novel.

Counting Crows are my favorite band, no contest. Love ’em! Love ’em! Love ’em!

I’ve been a voracious reader all my life, so the list of my favorite books is not only lengthy but always growing. Here is just a sampling of the books I’ve read that left a lasting impression.

Rough Draft by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne

Achilles Other Heel by Tulsa Brown

Out There in the Night by Laura Baumbach

Anything by Stephen King but especially Salem’s Lot, It, and Pet Sematary.

The Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Curse of Chaleon by Lois McMaster Bujold

Some other stuff I love …

My cats; my dog; my Ipod (I’m a gadget nerd. I can’t help it.); wireless internet (See, I told you!); the beach at any time of year; New Year’s Eve on Duval Street; really spicy curry, peppermint mocha lattes and chocolate!
